India win the Women's Cricket World Cup in packed out Navi Mumbai.

India win the Cricket World Cup for the first time in their history under huge pressure at a packed out Navi Mumbai.

The scene was set in Navi Mumbai, a game of the ages to be played in front of 45,000 people, even with a rain delay no overs were lost.

The hosts of the tournament, India, batted first and set a strong total of 298, opener Shefali Verma led the charge getting a strong 87 runs from 78 balls also backed up by Deepti Sharma's 58.

In response, South Africa's captain Laura Wolvaardt scored her second successive century in just 98 balls but SA's resurgence was put to a grinding halt in the 42 over when she knocked one to deep mid wicket off Sharma and Amanjot Kaur made a juggling catch to send her packing.

This ended up being the catalyst that India needed to go on and win the final, managing to get the final wicket with SA ending on 246 runs. The packed out crowd that, at this point, had stayed past midnight local time were in pandemonium, and considering where India were at one point in the group stages, it was quite the turn around for them.

Unfortunately for South Africa this was their 3rd final in a row, and their 3rd final loss in a row.

The scenes that followed the match suggested that this victory has ignited a new passion for woman's cricket in India.
