USA Cricket vs Canada Cricket - Head to Head Statistics - One of the Oldest Rivalry's in the World

Although some might not know it, Canada vs USA is one of the oldest cricket rivalry's in the world! Beginning all the way back in 1844, when the two sides played what is now recognised as the first international cricket match, that match marked the beginning of this historic rivalry that is still active to this day. 

USA and Canada haven't actually played many official matches against each other but in the matches that they have, it has been closely matched.

USA Cricket vs Canada Cricket - ODI's

In one day international games (ODI's), USA and Canada have played each other five times, with the USA winning four of them and Canada taking one. Canada's singular victory came in their first ever ODI matchup in the March of 2023, with Canada holding on to their total of 198 and getting USA all out for 172 after 47.3 overs played. In the other games, USA won 3 out of the 4 by 50 runs or more, very much dominating the ODI scene between the two nations.

USA Cricket vs Canada Cricket T20I

In total, USA have played Canada in international T20's thirteen times, with the USA winning seven, Canada winning four and two of them ending in either a no result or a tie. Meaning USA still take the crown in terms of wins but Canada have certainly put up more of a fight in terms of the rivalry in this format of cricket.

The Canadian and USA's domestic leagues

The way cricket is growing in North America is very much driven by Canada and USA's respective domestic leagues. The Global T20 League, that started in 2018 has been Canada's only domestic league until this year in which the Canada Super60 has been founded and will be held in the iconic BC Place Stadium. Initially the GTC was among the first pro leagues on the continent and was vital for attracting international stars to play cricket in North America and offered Canadians players key exposure. Now the Super60 is taking the headlines, and no announcement so far that the GTC is going ahead for 2025, the future of it remains unknown.

Major League Cricket, which formed it's name in similar fashion to USA's domestic Baseball League and Soccer league, Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer. Founded in 2023, there have been three iterations of the MLC in which MI New York have won two, with Washington Freedom taking the other from the six teams that compete. With teams in the MLC currently using three venues to play their games at, the hope in the future is that each team will have constructed their own stadium to play home games in.

Canada and USA - ICC Rankings

Whilst neither side currently plays test cricket, both have shown gradual progress when comparing their ICC rankings. Canada are currently 18th in ODI and 19th in T20I and USA are currently 14th in ODI and 17th in T20I.

Both nations clearly have deep roots in the sport and a shared passion for growing cricket in North America. As their domestic leagues develop, their rankings improve, and their head-to-head record continues to evolve, the rivalry between Canada and the USA promises to remain an exciting and important part of international cricket for years to come.
