Top 5 Cricket Training Drills to Improve Your Batting

Consistent practice is the key to batting success, but there is always ways your training can help you sharpen your skills and build confidence at the crease. These are the Top 5 Drills you can do yourself to give you more chance of dominating with the bat!

  • Shadow Batting - Everyone knows that keen kid that is always practicing his batting with a few shadow batting exercises but it really can drill the correct movement into your head. It gives you a chance to emphasise correct footwork, stance and shot execution but without a ball, thus working on your muscle memory.

  • Cone Drills - Setting up small cones and placing a ball on top can help guide your footwork for playing different shots correctly (e.g Drive through the covers or a pull shot).

  • Tennis Ball On String - By attaching a tennis ball to the ceiling via some string and letting it swing towards you, you can practice different types of shots and work on your timing of your swing.

  • Throwdown with Focus - Have a partner throw down/bounce balls in front of you and work on practicing specific shot types or defensive techniques.

  • One Handed Batting - Practice driving the ball with just your bottom hand, or guiding the ball with just the top hand to develop wrist strength and control.
